On the first day of the festive season, Wonder gave to me…

Our gardens don’t need swans a-swimming, or any type of partridge in a pear tree, but here is our nod to the days leading up to Christmas, garden style. We’re starting with…

Wonder Super Bloom

Turn your roses and flowers festive in 5 days.

The formulated slow-release fertiliser gives your flowering blooms their best look (you’ll notice a difference in about 5 days after your first application). Wonder Super Bloom makes great gifts for gardeners who love watching their flowers burst with colour and pizazz.

Gardening tip #1

Increase flower production by pruning your plants.

Pruning plants means cleaning the foliage of the plant so that what is left behind, will spend the time focusing its energy on the remaining blossoms or growth. The best thing to do when growing plants, is to strip the entire bottom parts of the plant.

We’re choosing Wonder Lawn Booster over two turtle doves

Wonder Lawn Booster

Host fabulous December picnics and braais on your lush lawn.

Wonder Organics Lawn Booster is a high-quality slow-release fertiliser for use throughout the year, keeping your lawn thicker and greener for longer.

Gardening tip #2

Did you know that one of the most effective ways to get your grass to grow fast is to fertilise it right after you plant it?

On the third day of the festive season, Wonder gave to me tasty homegrown veggies from the garden

Wonder Veggie Garden

Tasty, juicy, crisp, and flavourful – veggies from the garden are out-of-this-world delicious. Wonder Organics Veggie Garden is a balanced, naturally enriched, and nourishing feed that boosts vegetables to grow in time for your jolly family meal.

Gardening tip #3

Growing lettuce for your side salads? Fertilise them as often as every four weeks with granules scattered around the plants and watered in (the colour granules of Wonder Veggie Garden make it easy to see where you have applied fertiliser). Fertiliser helps plump up the leaves, chases away any bitterness, and helps keep them growing.

On the fourth day of the festive season, Wonder gave to me ravishing roses

Wonder Rose & Flower

Decorate your home with a difference this year.

Add Wonder Rose & Flower to your flowering rose shrubs and garden roses, giving them a balanced blend of nitrogen and potassium and livening up their colour.

Gardening tip #4

To keep roses healthy and lovely, give them what they need. Roses require at least 6 hours of full sun a day (preferably in the morning), well-drained and nutrient-rich soil, and moderate amounts of water. Remember to water the soil directly, not the leaves or flowers.

Day 5: our golden products

Wonder Fruit & Flower

Wonder Fruit & Flower is a high-potassium fertiliser that will help to promote healthy flowering and fruiting growth. Add this to your gift wish list if your garden is large and needs some extra love.

Gardening tip #5

Small gardens can have more than viny pothos or micro-herb patches. Grow the following fruits in pots around your garden, on your patio, or layered on your balcony:

  • Lemons
  • Strawberries
  • Figs

On the sixth day of the festive season, Wonder gave to me healthy soil a-laying

Wonder Organic Vita Boost

Earthworms in our soil are good for improving drainage and soil structure. Earthworms leave behind richer soil than they found. Their digestive systems concentrate food’s organic and mineral contents, which they cast off as a rich compost for plants. See more about why plants love Wonder Organic Vita Boost

Gardening tip #6

Test your soil’s acidity or alkalinity levels with ingredients from your pantry.

  1. Start with 2 tablespoons of soil in a bowl. Add ½ cup vinegar. If the mixture fizzes, you have alkaline soil.
  2. Add another 2 tablespoons of soil in a different bowl and moisten it with distilled water. Add ½ cup baking soda. If the mixture fizzes, you have acidic soil.

On the seventh day of the festive season, Wonder gave to me a pest-free lawn that is green

Wonder Lawn Pest & Green

Control lawn caterpillars and armyworms on your lawn with Wonder Lawn Pest & Green – a fertiliser that doubles as a contact and stomach insecticide.

Gardening tip #7

We all love to see butterflies in our gardens, and moths can be attractive and fascinating, but we are not so keen on caterpillars.

Caterpillars do feed on pretty specific things and one way to prevent these pests from invading your garden is to avoid growing the host plants. They are best known for the damage they do to brassicas (cabbages).

Day 8: Just lawns and leafing around

Wonder Lawn and Leaf

Grassy gardens, agapanthus, and azaleas are all among the types of lawns, evergreen plants, and shrubs that Wonder Lawn and Leaf add for that extra bit of greening goodness for these garden favourites.

Gardening tip #8

Cleaning your leaves and making them shine.

As a leaf gloss on indoor plants, clean leaves first with a damp cloth, then lightly apply a mixture of Efekto Oleum (2.5 ml per 1 l water) evenly to the upper surface of hard-leafed plants only.  Spraying too close may cause chilling damage to the plant.

There’s nothing like (Christmas tree) green

Wonder Deep Green

Exotic, trendy, and glorious, deep green foliage makes a garden look gorgeous. Wonder Deep Green adds that extra bit of nutrients to your lawn and foliage, keeping leaves and grass blades looking fabulous.

Gardening tip #9

Pay attention to your plant: A common sign your plant is stressed is if it’s dropping leaves and flowers. Stressors can include lack of water, over-watering, temperature changes, less light, etc.

On the ninth day of the festive season, Wonder gave to me great gifts for gardeners: beginner edition

Wonder Plant Starter All Purpose

Your all-in-one product for starting your outdoor haven – Wonder Plant Starter All Purpose granules are a balanced blend of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium for foliage growth, flowering, and fruiting.

Gardening tip #10

As a beginner gardener, you may need to stock up on some gardening supplies to get started. Our top garden tools every gardener should have include:

  1. Gloves – the most important garden tools? With gloves, you can easily pull up nettles or cut back thorny shrubs without getting scratched.
  2. Hand trowel – hand trowels are indispensable for planting. Consider whether it would handle digging up tough weeds when you’re choosing one.
  3. Hand fork – to achieve a consistency suitable for growing roots, hand forks break up lumpy soil and mix crumbly compost into it.
  4. Secateurs – garden secateurs are among the most frequently used tools. There will always be plants that need trimming back in the garden, no matter what you do.

Wonder gave to me ten lords a-leaping through my beautiful green garden

Wonder Plant Booster All Purpose

Reindeer, lords and the kids will all love playing in your vivid green garden.

Feed your lawn, vegetables, and evergreen garden plants (after all they deserve to feast this silly season, too). Wonder Plant Booster is a high-nitrogen fertiliser that boosts healthy green growth.

Gardening tip #11

Learn the signs of a jolly and joyful plant.

A happy plant typically has shiny dark green leaves, its flowers are bright, and its roots are pale. If you water it too much, its extremities will tend to turn yellow and the rhizome will turn brown or black.

Wonder Super Phosphate

Stimulating root growth in lawns, seedlings, trees, and shrubs. Wonder Super Phosphate can turn your garden into a festive wonderland.

Gardening tip #12

Root rot doesn’t have to ruin your festive season.

If you suspect your plant has root rot, you will need to check and identify it. If root rot is a problem, it’s time to determine if the plant can be saved. A mushy root system is a sign that it’s too late to save the plant. However, if some healthy, white, firm roots exist, try to bring the plant back to good health by replanting it in fresh soil with good drainage.

Now the gardening can begin
